Two years ago, the NCAA changed the recruiting calendar for NCAA-approved evaluation events to extend to the summer month of June, to include high school sanctioned events - giving high school coached programs an opportunity to compete in viewing period events or scholastic events approved by the NCAA and National Federal High School Association (NFHS). As a result, the Section 7 Tournament was organized and hosted in Arizona - a high school basketball tournament comprised of (160) different high school teams from (12) different states. The event was a tremendous success, as college coaches scoured the state in an attempt to observe the best basketball talent in the West.
After a layoff last summer, due to the COVID pandemic, the Section 7 Basketball Tournament is now back, and bigger than ever. The first annual event was played at numerous high schools around the valley, but with a much bigger budget now, this year's event will be held June 18-20th, 2021, @ the State Farm Stadium football stadium where the Arizona Cardinals play in Glendale, Arizona - creating an amazing atmosphere for the more than 300+ games that will be held under one roof for all spectators, college coaches, scouts and media to observe.
Our Arizona Preps' staff will definitely be in attendance to bring you daily coverage of this year's event. Here is some information about this year's exciting tournament, which will be the first time Division-I college coaches will be permitted to be back on the road by the NCAA to evaluate college prospects - making for a very intense atmosphere for all those involved.
