One of the top overall freshman prospects in Arizona's junior college ranks this past season was South Mountain Junior College's 6-foot-4, 180-pound freshman combo-guard Ferron Flavors. Recently, Flavors received a nice offer from a program in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC).
Over the weekend, Flavors received a division-I offer from Fairfield University head coach Sydney Johnson (pictured), while on a visit to the program.
A native of Washington, where he attended Federal Way High School, Flavors was among the top pure shooters of the basketball in the ACCAC last season, and was one of the top overall performers in the conference as well - averaging impressive numbers on the season. While playing 30 minutes per/game for head coach Daven Vo last season, Flavors averaged 17.9 points per/game, while shooting 41.4% from three-point distance and 83.7% from the free-throw line.
Flavors will be one of the elite returning sophomores in the conference next fall, and will need to complete his AA degree before moving on to the division-I ranks. I look for him to receive more recruitment as the off-season continues to unfold, and next season as well.
Very few prospects have Flavors' ability to shoot the basketball, and make also make shots. He can play both guard positions on the floor also - making him an attractive prospect for the next level.
Flavors is also coming off a very good performance in the recent West Coast Elite Unsigned Senior/JUCO Showcase event in Las Vegas during the NCAA Evaluation Period.
I will continue to follow Flavors' recruitment closely, and bring you any updates as they continue to develop.
Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Very few prospects have Flavors' ability to shoot the basketball, and make also make shots. He can play both guard positions on the floor also - making him an attractive prospect for the next level. A combo-guard prospect, Flavors likes to have the basketball in his hands, but is at his best when catching and shooting the basketball. Has excellent range on his shot and is a threat to score from anywhere on the floor. A good ball handler and passer. Pushes the basketball ahead with the pass. A fundamentally sound performer. A solid rebounder but needs to focus more on this area of his game to reach his full potential as a player. A good defender that plays passing lanes. Has good toughness and plays with excellent enthusiasm. A solid all around prospect for the mid-major level.
