On Friday night two local prep schools, AZ Compass Prep & Dream City Christian both had games at Skyline Gila River to kick off the event. Dream City Christian played against a local semi-pro team in the South Phoenix Knights at 7 pm and AZ Compass Prep played Planet Athlete at 830 pm.

Below is a summary of each game from the opening night of this year's Arizona Preps Fall Showcase . . .

Dream City Christian Vs South Phoenix Knights

In the first game of the night, Dream City competed against a very formidable opponent in the South Phoenix Knights. The whole first half was very competitive, as both teams went back-and-forth, as they took turns trading buckets. Marjon Beauchamp (pictured right) and Jalin Anderson (UC-Riverside commit, pictured left) got Dream City going early, as they were both aggressive and were looking to create offense.

Gerald Doze set the tone for the Knights, as he was very effective scoring on the block for his team.

Arthur Kaluma, Brandyn Talbot and Marko Milivojevic also were productive early for Dream City Christian.

Rashmell Vereen and Jaquan Carter helped lift the Knights late in the first half, to give them a 44-43 lead at half.

To start the second half, it was much of the same as both teams couldn’t seem to pull away. Arthur Kaluma for Dream City really took his game to another level, running his motor and making plays for himself and teammates offensively, that got them going. Dream City held a 71-69 lead with 10 minutes left. Again with big plays for Anderson, Kaluma and Marjon Beauchamp, Dream City was able to spark a run that was capped off by a three from Ra’shjon Martinez (UNLV commit) to give them a 80-72 lead with 6:46 left.

Dream City was able to maintain the lead down the stretch and pull out the win in an overall competitive game. Marjon Beauchamp led the way with a game-high 32 Points and 11 Rebounds, as he really asserted himself all game and was able to score from all spots on the floor in a variety of ways all game. Kaluma finished with 13 Points, 12 Rebounds and 5 Assists, while Anderson finished with 21 points to help lead the way.

AZ Compass Prep Vs Planet Athlete

In the second game of the night, AZ Compass competed against Planet Athlete. This game started somewhat competitive, but AZ Compass quickly blew it open and used their size and athleticism to overwhelm Planet Athlete.

AZ Compass had contributions from their whole roster this game as Xavier Dusell (Northern Colorado commit) had a hot shooting night; Frankie Collins competed hard on both ends and impacted the game on both defense and offense; Seryee Lewis brought toughness and a high motor; Sincere Parker was effective in transition and shooting the ball; Isaiah Floyd knocked down shots and made plays for his teammates; Ariel Bland brought his high motor and aggressive style of play; Maxwell Lewis showed his athleticism and skillset; Jabari Walker showed his skillset and athleticism; Fallou Diagne brought his high motor, shot blocking and ability to attack the rim, and Josh Primo showed his skillset and ability to impact the game besides scoring.

AZ Compass competed hard on both ends and went into the half with a 49-21 lead. The second half was much of the same, as they cruised to a 99-46 win.

AZ Compass early on has showed how deep they can be and the amount of upside they have throughout their roster. Both of these prep schools should be very competitive throughout the year and should be fun to watch, as they go further along into their journey as respective teams this season.
