Catalina Foothills’ Place Among the State and Nation’s Best Over Last 3 Years

Over the past three years, Arizona is home to (3) of the nation’s most successful high school programs. Between 2017-20, two Phoenix area schools and one Tucson school rank among the nation’s Top 20 high school basketball programs in terms of winning percentage.

Tops in the state – and ranking No. 12 nationally – is Hillcrest Prep, whose home-court facility is at Inspire Courts in Gilbert. Since 2017, Hillcrest has compiled an impressive 92-18 (.836) record, which will look even better after this season, considering Hillcrest’s 37-1 current record, and scoring average of 99.2 points per game.

Just behind Hillcrest as the state’s No. 2 program is Shadow Mountain, which owns a record of 66-14 (.825) over the past three years.

Rounding out the state’s top three programs is Catalina Foothills, the best program down in Tucson. The past three seasons under Head Coach Doug D’Amore have seen Foothills go 71-16 (.816), which is actually a better winning percentage than some of America’s premier high school power programs, including Mater Dei (Santa Ana, CA), Paul VI (Chantilly, VA) and Seattle’s Rainier Beach.

Foothills has started off this season 6-0 and dominating opponents, winning by an average of over 30 points per game. Foothills is in the middle of an extremely difficult stretch now, however, as it must play (5) games in (6) days, including Tuesday vs. Scottsdale Desert Mountain, and then Saturday vs. 8-1 St. Mary’s. The St. Mary’s game will match up two of the top five teams in Arizona’s 4A classification.
