Che’Leez Smith-Ralph Chooses Her Academic Home

For months, Sequoia Pathway Academy senior guard Che’Leez Smtith-Ralph has been wondering about her future in basketball. She has spent loads of time and is highly dedicated to the game she loves, so she can continue to play in college. A few weeks ago, Smith and our Girl's Basketball Scout Only Cathemer started to work together to prepare for Smith’s future. Together they have been communicating, searching for game film and preparing Smith for a memorable college experience.

Cathemer stated that she is excited to be a part of Che’Leez college process, since Che’Leez is her first client on the girl's side of Arizona Preps' basketball. Proudly, today Arizona Preps announced Smith's commitment to Saint Augustine College in North Carolina.

Scout Only Cathemer believes in Smith, because of her dedication and ability to win. In the state championship last season, Che’Leez looked like she had prepared for that moment - taking home the Most Valuable Player award in her final State Championship game.

Cathemer believes that Smith is going to be a great assist to her new team, because she has the five D’s: Direction, Desire, Dedication, Determination and Discipline.

Ms. Cathemer said it is important for Smith to know that it’s going to be challenging as a red-shirt freshman, but she must know that it will be a vital part of her development.

Quoting ledgendary Penn State Head Coach Joe Paterno: “The will to win is important, but the will to prepare to win is vital.”

Che’Leez Smith-Ralph or "Leez" as she is known, recently graduated from Sequoia Pathway Academy. Smith is originally from San Bernardino, California. Leez started playing basketball in the 3rd grade, where her sisters influenced her to be the best. When Smith saw her older sister Vonnie play basketball, she fell in love instantly. As she grew up, she had a fire to be the best she could be and make her uncle proud, like her sister did. Smith recalls her sister’s buzzer-beater as a youngster. As she lived through her sister’s buzzer-beater performance, she eventually hit her own.

Over the years, Smith has been inspired to be better than her sister, and make her family proud.

Smith stated that she wanted to be a role model, like her coaches, Kobe and family members that have made her better.

Arizona Preps is very happy to be apart of Smith’s journey, because like her, our goal is to inspire, teach and be role models for the youth.

“My goal in life is simple, I want to inspire and motivate kids who grew up like me," said Smith. "Wherever I go, whatever I do, I will inspire the youth and give them someone to look up to.”
