Red hot Desert Vista High School (7-0) had their first home game of the season vs Brophy College Prep (0-3).

The game started off as a back-and-forth battle, as both teams came out with a lot of intensity and competed hard. Each school took turns scoring the ball and, after what was a high scoring up-tempo first quarter, it was 19-17 Desert Vista.

Early in the second quarter, Desert Vista started to find their rhythm and started to mount a nice run. They first stretched the lead to 28-19 with 4 minutes left to go in the 2nd quarter, after 2021 guard Andrew King knocked down a pull-up and a couple threes. DV continued to attack the rest of the quarter and went into the half up 40-26.

To begin the 3rd quarter, Desert Vista continued to put the pressure on Brophy and they were able to continue to overwhelm Brophy with an aggressive style of basketball. Both 2020 Marquette signee Osa Ighodaro and 2022 guard Desean Lecque made some big plays to help stretch their lead to 66-44 at the end of the 3rd quarter.

Brophy prep wouldn’t go down without a fight though. They were able to get the lead down to 69-54 with 5:45 left in the game. Brophy continued to chip away and got it down to 71-58 with 4:25 left to go. They made one last push to get it down to 73-65 with 2:15 left to go in the game, but Desert Vista was able to make enough plays to maintain the lead and Brophy Prep was never able to get it within 8 points.

Desert Vista won the game with a final score of 84-76, which brings their record to 7-0 on the season. Brophy prep is now 0-3 on the young season.

Desert Vista was led by their trio of 6-foot-8 2020 Osa Ighodaro with 20 points and 11 rebounds, 6-foot-2 2021 Andrew King with 21 points, and 6-foot-1 2022 Desean Lecque with a game-high 26 points. 6-foot-8 2021 John Solomon also contributed a lot on both ends of the floor.

For Brophy Prep, Joe Feeney led the way with 20 points total.

Desert Vista is off to a very hot start this season and look for that continue, as they are one of the best teams in the state - regardless of class.
