Post Blacksher, Morrow & Gabriel Join Team Why Not

It is not everyday that you will hear a group of Arizona kids filling a need and impacting a national-level circuit team on such a high regard. But that day is today. This past weekend Shadow Mountain's 5-foot-11 2019 point guard Jovan Blacksher Jr. and 6-foot-4 2020 wing Shemar Morrow suited up alongside 5-star recruit Cassius Stanley from Sierra Canyon (CA) with Russell Westbrook's EYBL-sponsored Team Why Not AAU program. Both fit in like a pair of Westbrook's Size 15 Jordan's.

In Blacksher's case, he is fitting a glaring need for such a strong, talented, and athletic roster. In their game against Arizona's own Nico Mannion and his West Coast Elite squad, their lack of a pure point guard was a glaring need for them. Blacksher is widely regarded as the premier pure point guard in the state. Over the weekend he did exactly what most know of Jovan Blacksher Jr. to do. He facilitated beautifully, created havoc on the defensive end and creating turnovers to get a team that loves to run, out in transition. When defenses clamped down on his supporting cast, Jovan weaved his way thru traffic and knocked down open jumpers that he can create for himself off the bounce.

Morrow is another added freak athlete that has the look of a grown man. He fits the mold perfectly into what that team does. While everyone knows him for his above-the-rim finishes, strength and toughness, Shemar has been working on the skill part of his game to take it to the next level. As of late he has been finding the confidence to shoot it from the outside and knock it down when his feet get set. If and/or when he starts figuring some things out on the perimeter, his stock is going to rise like a Manhattan skyscraper.

Now a 3rd player playing his high school basketball in Arizona will be on that roster, as 6-foot-8 2019 Forward Stephan Gabriel from Hillcrest Prep will put on a Why Not and lace up some J's as well. Gabriel played a couple weeks ago in Gerry Frietas' Spring Tip-Off for Blue Chip Nation Power and looked great. He made the list of top performers of the event on a team that went 4-0, albeit against much inferior competition. However, Gabriel has made the decision to join Blacksher and Morrow and play on a loaded EYBL circuit. The exposure should help his recruiting stock tremendously.

The trio, added with Stanley and the stable of other players they have with Why Not will be a force on that circuit. They will be in the EYBL 1st Session live-period event this weekend in Dallas. Stay tuned...
