<p>This past weekend the Grind Session Ayton Duel In The Desert was held at Dream City Christian School in Glendale, Arizona. This was a talent loaded event with top prep schools from across the country and Canada. These teams included Prolific Prep(CA), Dream City Christian (AZ), Phoenix Prep (PHH Prep), Arizona Compass Prep, Trinity Prep (NV), Balboa School (CA), Minnesota Prep, Bella Vista Prep (AZ), Veritas Prep (CA), and George Harris (Canada). Every single game was very competitive throughout the weekend but to end the weekend Prolific Prep finished the tournament 3-0 as they beat Dream City Christian on a wild half court buzzer beater from NimariBurnett to take home the Grind Session Duel In The Desert Championship. Below I will highlight the top and most consistent performers of the weekend in no particular order from each team. </p>

<p><strong>Nimari</strong><strong> Burnett, 2020, 6’3, </strong><strong>Prolific Prep, </strong><strong>Texas Tech Commit </strong></p>

<p>Nimari who is currently the 19<sup>th</sup> ranked player in the 2020 class on ESPN had himself a huge weekend and was the most valuable player for Prolific Prep who took home the championship this weekend. Nimari is a very dynamic, athletic, skilled and versatile combo guard. He had 25 Points, 5 Rebounds, 3 Steals & 2 Assists in a win Vs Bella Vista Prep. He also had He also had 25 Points, 6 Rebounds & 2 Assists in the championship game Vs Dream City Christian. Nimari can score at all three levels efficiently. He shoots the ball at a high level off the bounce or off the catch and he excels creating off the bounce where he is very crafty and shifty with the ball. He’s aggressive offensively, a very crafty finisher around the rim but also uses his athleticism and agility to convert tough finishes. He has a really good feel for the game overall and does a great job getting into the lane to make plays for others. Nimari is a great defender and is very competitive as competes hard every play on both ends of the floor which trickles down to his teammates. Nimari will make a huge impact at Texas Tech and has a very likely chance to become a very effective pro as well. </p>

<p><strong>Daishen Nix</strong><strong>, </strong><strong>2020, 6’3, </strong><strong>Trinity Prep</strong><strong>,</strong><strong> </strong><strong>UCLA Commit </strong></p>

<p>Daishen Nix who is currently the #21 ranked 2020 prospect on ESPN and is regarded as the top point guard in the country had a monster weekend for Trinity Prep. In his first game of the weekend he had 42 Points, 6 Rebounds, 4 Assists & 2 Steals. He followed that with a 26 Point, 8 Rebound and 4 Steals performance Vs Dream City in a game which they lead for most of the game but couldn’t pull out the win. He finished the weekend off with 26 Points, 9 Rebs in a win vs Veritas Prep. Daishen is an athletic, strong, skilled and crafty point guard who can do it all. Nix excels off the bounce where he is very shifty and crafty with the ball. He’s one of the best decision makers with the ball in the country as he’s an elite passer and makes great reads on 1<sup>st</sup> and 2<sup>nd</sup> defenders. He compliments his decision making with a very even keeled demeanor. He can score at all three levels, plays aggressive, and has a very much improved jumpshot as of late. He finishes at the rim at a high level with either hand and In crafty ways. Nix is also a very high level rebounder and has a very high basketball IQ. He’s a great leader, floor general and makes everyone around him better. Lastly Nix has quick hands and is a lockdown on ball defender as he makes it tough for opposing players with his on ball pressure. Nix will make a huge impact at UCLA and is another guy who should have a pro career in his near future. </p>

<p><strong>Jalen Green, </strong><strong>2020, 6’5, Prolific Prep, Uncommitted </strong></p>

<p>Jalen Green who is currently the #3 ranked prospect in the 2020 class had a very impressive weekend as well for Prolific Prep. He averaged 16.6 PPG, 6.6 APG & 5.6 RPG in 3 games. Jalen Green is one of the most explosive and dynamic players in the country with his athleticism and leaping ability. He’s also a very complete player who can do it all which  compliments his athleticism. Jalen can score at all three levels as he has a good mix to his game. He can knock down perimeter threes and jumpers off the bounce but also knows how to move off the ball so he can get to spots to get off his shot off the catch. He has a very good handle and is crafty off the bounce as he plays with good pace. He can finish around the rim at a high level with either hand and also has a good in between game. He plays a very aggressive style of basketball while also never get sped up, he’s always under control. Jalen is a high level rebounder for the guard position and he runs his motor on both sides of the floor. He has a great feel for the game and can create for others and make others better with his passing as well. Jalen is very dangerous in the open floor where he can use his explosive athleticism and play making ability. Jalen plays with a very even keeled demeanor and he competes hard on both ends of the floor. With his size and length he can become an elite defenderas his long arms can cause a lot of steals and deflections. Jalen hasn’t committed anywhere yet but has offers to every blue blood in the country and he’s another guy who will have a future as a pro. </p>

<p><strong>Marjon</strong><strong> Beauchamp, </strong><strong>2020, 6’</strong><strong>7</strong><strong>, Dream City (AZ) </strong></p>

<p>Marjon who is currently the #29 ranked prospect in the 2020 class on ESPN had a very impressive weekend and led the way for Dream City. Marjon had a very strong opening round game where he had 29 Points, 11 Rebounds & 6 Assists. He also had a very strong championship game where he had 19 Points, 3 Rebounds & 3 Assists. Marjon is a long athletic and very versatile player. He can score all three levels and shoots the ball at a really high level off the bounce or off the catch. He’s very good creating off the bounce as he has a good handle and pace to his game. He can score in a variety of ways from mid range or around the rim. He’s a very good play maker and makes good reads so that he can get his guys the ball in spots where they can score. He’s a high level rebounder where he uses his length and athleticism to clean up the glass. He competes hard on both ends of the floor and is another guy who can become a very good defender down the road with his size and length. Marjon has decided to pass up college options and will take next year to train strictly for a possible pro career. He is another guy in this field who will have pro options and will grow into a very nice player down the road. </p>

<p>Jabari who is currently a 3 star prospect according to 247 Sports had a very impressive weekend for AZ Compass and was probably there most consistent performer in 3 games in which they finished 2-1. Jabari had two very strong games where he had 24 Points, 9 Rebounds, 6 Blocks, 2 Steals & 12 Points, 8 Rebounds, 4 Assists and 2 Steals. Jabari is a very long, athletic and versatile player. He’s got good size and length that is matched with versatility on both ends of the floor. He can scoreat all three levels but he’s most effective attacking the rim as he plays a very aggressive style of basketball. He’s very dangerous in transition as well where he can get in the open floor and use his length and athleticism. He has a very good motor on both ends of the floor as he’s a big time rebounder and he’s very tough to keep off the offensive glass. Jabari is very valuable because he can guard 1-5 on the defensive end and he has great instincts which allows him to get a lot of steals and block shots in help-side. Jabari is a matchup problem and can do so many things on the court at a high level which makes him a tough matchup on both ends of the floor. Lastly he’s a high energy guy that always competes hard Jabari currently has interest from California, St Johns, Montana State Jabari currently has interest from California, St Johns, Montana State and Illinois State to name a few but look for his recruitment to really pick up as he’s off to a really good start this season. He’s another guy with some growth and time can have a possible future as a pro. </p>

<p>Alem who has already committed to Nevada in the mountain west conference had a very impressive weekend for PHH Prep helping them go 2-2 and were very competitive in the two games they lost. Alem is a very skilled, crafty and tough guard who might be the most pure shooter in this field of players. Alem is a high level shooter and is what you call a Dead 3. He has the ability to make tough contested shots off the dribble or off the catch which makes him hard to guard. He has a high IQ and understands how to cut to get to his spots. He can score at all three levels and has the ability to finish at the rim or knock down a mid range jumper. He has a solid handle which allows him to create off the bounce too. He’s a very tough and gritty player that competes hard on both ends of the floor. He’s a good on ball defender and is also a a great defender in helpside. Overall Alem is a high IQ player on both ends of the floor who can make smart reads offensively and defensively. He has been off to a great start this season and has shown why he’s someone to really look out for with he can do scoring the ball. Alem brings a lot to the table and should make a big impact at Nevada and is also another guy who has a pro future as he originally comes from Bosnia. </p>

<p>Enoch is a very impressive prospect out of Canada. In two games Enoch averaged 14.5 Points, 11.5 Rebounds and 1 block per game in two games for George Harris. Enoch is a very young prospect but his potential and ability at his age is very impressive. He’s a long, athletic player who also has skill to match with his physical attributes. Enoch is very strong and has solid footwork around the rim. He’s very active on the offensive and defensive glass and always runs his motor. He’s also skilled as he can handle the ball and is a capable shooter on the perimeter. He’s a good shot blocker that also alters a lot of shots just with his presence in the paint. He has long lanky arms which allows him to get to shots quicker. Enoch runs the floor really well in transition and also has good hands. He is a capable defender on the perimeter and is really mobile for his size. Enoch is very young still but as he matures and continues to improve his skill could grow into one of the better forward/center prospects in the grassroots basketball world. in what has now become a position less game he has the potential to turn into a do it all 6’10 forward that these days thrives at the highest levels. Look for his recruitment to sky rocket this year and in the near future as he’s a very intriguing prospect. </p>

<p><strong>Lu’Cye</strong><strong> Patterson</strong><strong>, 2020, </strong><strong>6’2, Minnesota Prep </strong></p>

<p>Lu’Cye Patterson who is a point guard in the 2020 class had a great weekend for Minnesota Prep. In 3 games Patterson averaged 15 Points, 5 Rebounds, 2.3 Steals, and 1.7 assists per game. Patterson is a very crafty, skilled, and high IQ point guard. He can score at all three levels and does so with great pace and is shifty/crafty off the bounce. He can really fill it up from anywhere but he’s most impressive making decisions with the ball off the bounce as he makes really good reads and sees plays before they happen. He’s a high level passer that can make his teammates better. Patterson is built like a running back very strong and physical but he moves good and is very quick laterally. He does a really good job crafting contact and using his strong body to create angles. He’s a good on ball defender and does a good job creating steals/deflections on or off the ball. He’s also a good rebounder at the point guard position which allows him to push in transition immediately. Patterson is currently floating under the radar but is someone who should gain a ton of D1 interest this year as he’s off to a really good start for Minnesota Prep. </p>

<p>Blaise had a very good weekend for Bella Vista Prep. Blaise in two of their four games had 18 Points, 3 Rebounds, 2 Steals and 19 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists. Blaise is a skilled and crafty combo guard who can really score the ball. He’s a high level shooter off the catch or off the bounce and his a quick pure release. He can score at all three levels and is very crafty with floaters and a variety of skill shots in the paint. Blaise is a high IQ player who understands how to cut and move without the ballto get his shot off. He has a good handle and is a capable passer. He is undersized for his position but he makes up for it with how hard he competes on both ends of the floor and how much he understands the game. Blaise currently has offers to Blaise currently has offers to southern Utah, Siena, and UC Riverside and don’t be surprised if he receives more as the season goes along as he’s a very good prospect who can produce at the collegiate level. </p>

<p><strong>Amar</strong><strong> Brown, 2020, </strong><strong>6’8, </strong><strong>Veritas Prep </strong><strong>(CA</strong>) </p>

<p>Amar Brown had a very strong  weekend for Veritas Prep In which they were competitive all week. In two out of their three games Amar had 13 Points, 7 Rebounds and 12 Points, 7 Rebounds. Amar is a very versatile and skilled big who plays a physical style of basketball. Amar can score at all three levels and is a tough matchup as he can stretch the floor his size and make bigger guys guard on the perimeter. He has really good footwork and touch around the rim and does a good job using his strong body to create contact on finishes at the rim. He’s a high level rebounder as he runs his motor on the glass and bring a tough mentality to rebounding and how he competes. He competes hard defensively and is capable defending on the perimeter. His versatility and tough gritty style of play makes him a matchup problem. Brown currently has offers to Pacific, Cal Poly, Northern Arizona and Southern Illinois currently and should see that list grow as he should continued to lead Veritas to a very strong season. </p>

<p>EJ Neal had a very strong weekend for Balboa School. In two games he had 20 points, 4 Rebounds, 3 Steals and 20 Points, 3 assists, and 2 steals. EJ is an athletic combo guard who can impact the game in multiple ways. He can score at all three levels as he shoots the ball at a high level but he can also create off the bounce to get to his pull up or finish at the rim. He has a good pace to his game and can score on or off the ball. He’s very good in transition as well. He’s also capable creating for others as he’s a good passer and has a good feel for the game. At his position he’s a high level rebounder as he pursues rebounds well and competes on the glass. He’s a very good defender and also gets a ton of steals/deflections with his long arms and active hands. He competes hard on both ends and can impact the game in a variety of ways not just scoring. EJ has a good handle which allows him to handle the ball and play point guard at times too. EJ is a versatile combo guard who who brings value on both ends of the floor. Currently he has offers to Brown, Northern Colorado and Montana and don’t be surprised if he adds more to his list this season. </p>

<p>Coleman Hawkins had a very strong weekend for Prolific prep and was a big piece in their championship run. Coleman who is a 3 star prospect did not fill up the stat sheet scoring wise this weekend but he impacted the game in ways that were very valuable on the defensive end and with his versatility. Coleman is a long, athletic forward who is very versatile. He is a very capable scorer from all three levels. He can stretch the floor and make jumpers but he’s most effective attacking the rim either off the bounce or off of dump offs from his guards. He has the ability to finish over defenders and also has good touch so he can finish in a variety of ways with either hand. He’s a matchup problem offensively, defensively he is as well because he can guard 1-5 and brings a lot of length and activity. He creates a lot of steals with his active hands and long arms. He is a very good shot blocker as he has great timing when attempting to block shots and again his long arms come into play. Coleman also has a great motor and is a high level rebounder. Hawkins has already committed to Illinois in the Big Ten and will make a big impact there. With his size and skillset he also has a chance down the road to become a pro. </p>

<p>Arthur had a very good weekend and may have been Dream City’s most consistent performer from the weekend. Arthur who is currently the 35<sup>th</sup> ranked player in the 2020 class on ESPN is an athletic, strong, and skilled big who brings versatility on both ends of the floor. Kaluma has the ability to knockdown perimeter jumpers but he is most effective attacking the rim off the bounce or on the block. He’s a tough physical player who possesses great footwork and the ability to finish through contact. He plays an aggressive and relentless style of basketball when attacking the rim and is very effective on the offensive glass as he’s really hard to keep off the glass. He’s got a good feel for the game, can make plays for others and understands how to move and cut to get to spots where he can be effective. Defensively he competes really hard and can guard 1-4 as he’s very mobile which makes him a matchup problem. He can also create a lot of steals and is a high level rim protector as well. Kaluma brings a sense of toughness and grit to his team. In three games he averaged 16.3 Points, 5.3 Rebounds, 2.3 Blocks, 1.7 Assists, and 1 Steal per game. He currently has offers to Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Oklahoma State, St Johns and UNLV to name a few and look for that list to grow as he’s another guy in this loaded field who could have a possible pro future. </p>

<p>Frankie Collins had a very strong weekend for AZ Compass who went 2-1 on the weekend. Frankie who is currently the 57<sup>th</sup>ranked player on ESPN for the 2021 class is an athletic and dynamic point guard who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. Frankie can score from all three levels efficiently but is most dangerous off the bounce where he can create offense for himself or others. He’s very shifty and crafty with the ball and compliments that with a quick first step and he’s very fast with the ball in his hands. He changes speeds well and has a great pace and feel for the game. He’s a high level finisher around the rim and also has a really good mid range/float game. He’s very dangerous in transition where he can attack the rim. He’s a very good playmaker as he makes really good reads and can read 2<sup>nd</sup>defenders. His passing and ability to put pressure on defenses makes him tough to guard as he can also score it. Defensively he’s a lockdown on ball defender and he has quick hands that can create a lot of steals. Frankie currently has interest and offers to Arizona State, Kansas, Minnesota, New Mexico, Oklahoma, TCU, Virginia Tech and Washington State to name a few. Frankie is yet another guy if he keeps developing has a possible future at a pro career. </p>

<p>Deandre Henry had a really strong weekend for PHH Prep who competed at a high level all weekend. Deandre who has already committed to Nevada in the mountain west conference along with his teammate Alem. Deandre is off to a big time start to the season and is becoming one of the best bigs on the west coast. He’s an athletic, tough, skilled and high IQ player who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He’s a capable shooter but really excels attacking the rim. He’s very effective on the block using either hand and has really good footwork. He’s very strong physically and can finish through contact. His motor is one of the best parts of his game as he is relentless on the glass on both ends of the floor. He’s a very good passer and has a great feel for the game as he makes really good reads with the ball and is a low mistake player. Defensively he’s a tough and gritty player who can guard multiple positions. Deandre is a good rim protector who alters a lot of shots, he also has great hands which allows him to create steals and catch tough passes. Deandre lastly runs the floor really well in transition and gets a lot of transition points. Deandre is a player who will make a big impact at Nevada and is yet another guy who has a future as a pro if he continues to develop and stay the course. </p>

<p>Cory had a very effective weekend for Trinity in which they were very close to making the championship game. Cory is a very skilled and crafty combo guard who shoots the ball at a really high level. Cory is a knockdown shooter who doesn’t miss many when he gets some space to get his shot off. He has a pure stroke with a quick release. Cory is also capable off the bounce as he plays with good pace and is shifty. He has a good mid range/float game and can also get to the rim where he can finish in a variety of ways. Cory has a really good handle which allows him to create off the dribble. Defensively he competes really hard and really gets after it. He is a good on ball defender and does a good job competing on both ends of the floor as he has a knack for making winning plays. Cory is currently under the radar but more than likely will start to gain a lot of interest from college coaches this season. </p>

<p>Quadre had a very strong weekend for Minnesota Prep especially had a strong game in their last game where he was named player of the game. Quadre is an athletic, strong and skilled prospect who can impact the game on both ends of the floor. He is a capable scorer from the perimeter but he’s most efficient attacking the rim off the bounce or by going to work on the low block. He’s very strong which allows him to finish through contact. Quadre has a good handle which allows him to create offense off the bounce and can do so with either hand. He has a really good motor on the glass and really gets after it pursuing rebounds. Defensively he’s a really good shot blocker and brings toughness to his team on that end of the floor. Quadrealso does a good job running hard to the rim in transition which gets him easy looks. Quadre is another guy who’s currently under the radar but should see his recruitment really pick up moving forward this season as he can be an impact player at the next level. </p>

<p>Jalin had a very impressive weekend for Dream City and also hit the game winner to win by one in a great game Vs Trinity Prep. Jalin who has already committed to UC Riverside has had a strong start to the season. Jalin is an athletic and skilled point guard who can really score it. Jalin can score all three levels but the best part of his game is his pull up game. He can knock down pull ups at a high level going left or right and does so at any spot on the floor. He has a good handle which allows him to attack and create off the bounce where he can also finish at a high level with either hand at the rim. He’s got a strong build which allows him to play through contact. Jalin has a good feel for the game and plays with good pace. Defensively he’s a lockdown on ball defender and does a good job staying in front while pressuring opposing players. Jalin also has quick hands which creates a lot of steals and deflections on the ball or in passing lanes. Jalin will make a big impact at UC Riverside next season as he’s a very good player. </p>

<p>Maxwell had a very impressive weekend for AZ Compass Prep who went 2-1 on the weekend. Maxwell was named player of the game in their last game where he had 20 Points, 6 Rebounds, 3 Assists, 2 Steals and 1 block. Maxwell is a long, athletic and very versatile player. He’s a long wirey athlete who knows how to use his natural attributes. He’s a capable shooter from the perimeter but is most effective attacking the rim off the bounce where he can finish in a variety of ways. He plays a very aggressive style of basketball where he’s always looking to attack. He has a very good motor on the offensive glass and is relentless doing so. He is very effective in transition where he can get out and use his athleticism. He’s overall a very tough matchup as he has guard skills but is big and athletic. Defensively he can guard multiple positions and he competes very hard on the defensive end. He has a knack for blocking shots and creating steals with his long arms and active style of play. He’s a high energy player who brings toughness and intensity to his team. The 4 star prospect currently has offers to Utah, Arizona State, DePaul, TCU and Washington State. He’s a very intriguing prospect who should see more offers roll in and with his talent and build is another guy who could have a pro future with some more growth. </p>

<p>Ky Oliver had a very impressive weekend for PHH Prep this past weekend. Ky Oliver is a very athletic and skilled combo guard who impacts the game on both ends of the floor. He’s a high energy guy who plays with a lot of intensity. Oliver can score at all three levels and has shot the ball a lot better from perimeter as of recently. He is best when attacking the rim where he’s very explosive and can finish at a high level. He has a good feel for the game and is a capable playmaker passing the ball. He’s a good cutter off the ball and understands what spots he needs to get to. He’s very effective in transition where he can use his dynamic athleticism. Defensively he’s a lockdown and gritty defender that can cause problem for opposing players with his energy and activity. He’s a high level shot blocker as well as he has really good timing. Ky is also a high level rebounder on both ends of the floor as he has a really good motor on the glass.Ky Oliver has been under the radar but as of recently has attracted a lot of attention from college coaches. He has a current offer form Portland State but those offers will continue to grow this season as he’s been playing high level basketball. With Oliver’s natural talent he has the ability to play past college as well if he continues to develop and grow. </p>
