Post MCC"s Mikel Beyers Signs With Conference USA Program

After one season at Mesa Junior College, very talented 6-foot-10 freshman forward Mikel Beyers has signed a national letter of intent with a program in the Conference USA, and will not return for his sophomore season.

Beyers has signed a national letter of intent with Marshall University, after averaging a modest 7.3 points and 2.5 rebounds per/game in his freshman season. While his numbers did not tell the story in his freshman season, it was obvious by anyone that knew him as a college prospect that this young man was as talented an individual prospect as there was in the conference.

Beyers was a full academic qualifier and had the option of returning for his sophomore season, or accepting a college scholarship after one season. Beyers saw his college recruitment really begin to soar this spring - making it difficult for him to return, as college programs looked to build and fill their rosters for next season.

Beyers was an underrated prospect in big-time proportions as a senior at Dysart High School. As a senior, Beyers put up terrific numbers - averaging 17.2 points and 11.7 rebounds per/game. He also shot 82% from the free-throw line on the season, while leading Dysart to a 18-8 record in his final season.

Beyers is a serious talent with excellent length of body and a nice overall skillset. He has excellent potential as a player, as he is long and rangy, and has a very good ability to shoot the basketball with unlimited range on his shot. While his length and size suggests that he is a post player, Beyers enjoys playing on the perimeter and in the open floor, where he is able to make plays with the basketball in his hands and also finish plays well above the rim. He is a good ball handler and passer for his size, that likes to advance the basketball up the floor, and also runs the floor like a guard. Beyers is a big-time talent with a very bright future.

Congratulations to Beyers on his signing, as well as the Mesa JC basketball staff on this major accomplishment.

Arizona Hoop Review Scouting Report: Beyers is a serious talent with excellent length of body and a nice overall skillset. He has excellent potential as a player, as he is long and rangy, and has a very good ability to shoot the basketball with unlimited range on his shot. While his length and size suggests that he is a post player, Beyers enjoys playing on the perimeter and in the open floor, where he is able to make plays with the basketball in his hands, and also finish plays well above the rim. He is a good ball handler and passer for his size, that likes to advance the basketball up the floor, and also runs the floor like a guard. Beyers is also a good and active rebounder that rebounds outside of his area on the floor. He is a solid defender but needs more focus in this area to maximize his potential. An excellent shotblocker with very good timing. Solid lateral quickness. He still needs to mature physically and get a body, but once he does, watch out. Beyers is a big-time talent with a very bright future.
