Fullcourt Press Diamond In The Rough Top Performers

In a world struck with COVID-19 and no youth basketball in sight, out comes Chad Groth (Areacodes) and Dinos Trigonis (Pangos) to the rescue with their ultimate goal to help youth basketball players secure scholarships.  In what was most likely the first event of it's kind, since the pandemic began, the Diamond in the Rough Senior Showcase hosted some of the top unsigned junior college (juco) & Class of 2020 prospects to play in front of college coaches.

Below are some of the top prospects that were in attendance . . .

Drew Yezbak 2020, PG, 6'0, Crean Lutheran - Drew is an extremely quick guard who has the ability to create for others. He is very strong, which allows him to finish through contact, and he is creative with his ability to get his own shot.

Michael Birket 2020, SG, 6'5, Crean Lutheeran - Michael was one of the best prospects at the event. He was able to score from all three levels - showing elite three-point range. Defensively, he is very active and forces opposing players into bad positions.

Matt Brookins 2020, F, 6'6, Westminster - Matt showed amazing strength and athleticism, that allowed him to play much bigger than his size. Matt has great hands and can hold his position in the post against the best of them.

Jake Conerty 2020, SG, 6'5, Mission Viego - Jake was one of the top prospects at the event. He is able to create for himself and others easily off the dribble. But what was most impressive, was his physicality, when driving to the rim. 

Ty Hightower 2020, Combo Guard,6 ft 2, La Joya - Hightower (pictured right) was one of the most athletic players in attendance. He had multiple plays that got coaches out of their seats. In transition, he is very dangerous and can finish over most players.

Nashon Harper, 2020, PG, 6 ft 3, La Joya - Nashon (pictured left) is a terror on defense. He has extremely active hands and makes every play tough on the opposing defenders. Offensively, he is quick and crafty. He has a high basketball IQ, that is always on display.

Thomas Mulling, 2020, F, 6 ft 5, Greenway - Thomas is a beast in the post. His defensive instincts pop out immediately. He continuously blocked and altered shots, snatched rebounds and, overall, changed each game he participated in with his out the roof motor.

Mohammed Jafari , JUCO 2020, SG, 6 ft 4 New Mexico JC - Mohammed stood out immediately in the JUCO portion of the event. He is a knock-down shooter off the dribble or the catch. He plays with a high IQ and can expose mismatches with his back to the basket game.

Makeal Rainbow, Juco 2020, PG, 6 ft 2 South Mountain CC - Makeal made great decisions in each game he played. His picked his spots perfectly on when to score and when to create for others. He showed an advanced ability to create separation to create his own shot.

Lonnie Langston, Juco 2020, pg, 5 ft 11 Tohono O'oodham College - Lonnie is an extremely quick guard who has a knack for making the right play. He is very good in the pick-and-roll situations, and punishes defenders for going under.

Kai Johnson, 2020, F, 6 ft4 Oxnard - Kai was very impressive, even though he seemed injured. What set Kai apart from other players was his footwork on offense. He showed the ability to create tons of space with a limited amount of dribbles.

Stacy Jonson, 2020, Combo Guard, 6 ft 1 Oxnard - Stacy impressed with his extreme intensity and motor. His first step is lighting-quick and it allowed him to draw fouls throughout the event.
